It's very unusual that I will write, opinion or otherwise release online but after thinking the concept over I've made the decision to share a few of my thoughts with you about what health and fitness is, what it's really about and who should be considered fit. Of course this is only my viewpoint at this point in history, but it should get being mentioned nevertheless. I'm writing this, of course, out of frustration. I read fit individuals articles, updates and weblogs regularly to be able to learn and enhance myself in this industry we call health and fitness but lately I've come across several very fit individuals illustrating lines in the sand (regarding what health and fitness is), that, in my view, don't really need to be there.
Now you've heard me say it a million times! Fitness (technically) is usually described in a way that has something to do with having maximum levels of:
cardiovascular stamina,
muscular stamina,
muscular strength,
flexibility,
body structure (fat vs. trim whole body mass)
While this is true and I certainly agree, I think what we are discussing about is a quantitative way to look at a qualitative issue. Yea activities are quantitative. How much, how many, how low, how high, how strong, how far, how big, how much time - these are factors we affiliate quite often with game. In America we tend to be a quantitative community. We want to know how much money an individual has, who has the most friends, who usually spends the most on clothes, who has the minimum human extra fat amount, who can regular media exercise the most bodyweight and who can run the lengthiest range in the least period of time. We are enclosed in figures, amounts and maintaining ranking.
So I raise the question: Is health and health and fitness really a quantitative thing? Or could it be that health and health and fitness is a qualitative thing? Maybe a mixture of both? What do you think?
The only factor I can say about this is that (to me) health and health and fitness is more than how frequently you can raise a bodyweight, how far you can run or if you are versatile enough to put your feet behind your head or not. To me health and health and fitness is about factors that cannot always be calculated with figures, it's about more than a variety, a bodyweight, a range, a ranking.
I tell my clients that we all have pros and cons at various points in our lives. At 24 years of age I had 9% human extra fat year-round, I could go 700 weight and regular media exercise 405 weight for repetitions. I can't do that any longer. But I can do 35 pull-ups, stand on a balance ball for just about provided that I want and touch my experience to my joint when extending, all factors I could not do as a beast-boy 24-year-old. So was I more fit then or now?
Take a look at the individuals around you. What's their story? What are their experiences? Are they fat? Are they too skinny? Maybe they're really poor and can't raise much bodyweight. Maybe they have a low-level of stamina and can't run very far before getting worn out. Think about it for a moment then ask yourself: if perhaps their current stage is better than it was previously, does the fact that they don't live up to your understanding of what health and fitness should be really matter? If you think about any of these factors they all rely on one thing: your understanding of that individual. I take the position that health and fitness advances as an individual goes through lifestyle. What you thought about health and fitness early in your lifetime may not be the same concept you have about health and fitness later on. I motivate you to accept health and fitness throughout your daily lifestyle regardless of what experience it currently has.
Improve! Get better in some way. You may not always be able to do what you did as a youngster but there are ways where you can become even better than you were. And I've seen individuals who were very inactive as adolescents who have continuously enhanced their health and health and fitness stage as they've older. One customer of my own, Lisa, told me she's (in her 60s) in the best form of her lifetime. Isn't that what health and fitness is about? If you really think about health and fitness, isn't it about getting better, enhancing and doing what you need to do to experience good about yourself and your actual body? Aren't those factors mostly about quality and not quantity?
I think so. I think health and fitness has thousands of encounters and takes on a large variety of features. I motivate you to try not to see health and fitness in such a filter opportunity that you forget that health and fitness, above all, is about individuals. It's about individuals getting better, not being the best. Fitness is not a game, it's not a competition and no one is maintaining ranking. Fitness is about you as an individual. You may be a extremely successful sportsman like Puncture Remedy or Attracted Brees (both fit people) or you may be like my customer Lisa (also a fit person) who in her 60s made the decision she wanted to walk with more energy, experience more constant and be able to try out with her grand kids.
Now I motivate you to consider this: Lisa can genuinely say that she is in the best form of her lifetime, can Puncture Remedy currently say the same thing? So which individual's health and fitness stage provides them best? I'll let you decide.
Try to think of health and fitness as something that is comprehensive, not unique. Sports are wonderful and to be able to have a champion we have to keep ranking and compare one against the other. I motivate you to leave the ranking sticking to the sportsmen on the field-of-play, and only on the field-of-play, and not in the day-to-day activities that individuals lead in their quest for health and fitness.
